The focus of this article is to inform people about the beginning of the new season of the National Basketball Association aka NBA. Taking into account promising teams which may even become champions of this 2023/2024 period, prospects, and predictions of possible: MVP, DPOY, scoring leader, and victory record of the regular season, among many other things. Such as the introduction of the new NBA in-season tournament.
To start off, the season began on the 25th of October, in which a total number of 12 games were contested as a tip-off between the hours of 7:00 PM ET and 10:30 PM ET. This brought an incredible performance from two main athletes, starting with Luka Dončić recording an amazing triple-double (33 PTS / 13 REB / 10 AST) leading the Dallas Mavericks to their first win against the San Antonio Spurs and the new “phenomenon” Victor Wembanyama coming from France to the league. Next up is Kristaps Porzingis, with his debut in the Boston Celtics scoring 30 PTS and 4 BLK stepping with the right foot on the court, increasing his fame.
Speaking about new beginnings. This year new players brought something interesting to talk of, like their first steps in their careers from rookies like Victor Wembanyama, playing for the San Antonio Spurs, and Chet Holmgren with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Wembanyama also called “Wemby” by his fans and colleagues recorded 15 PTS, 3 3PM, 5 REB, 2 AST, 2 STL and 1 BLK, despite his magnificent opening his team came up short of winning the game making the Spurs record 0-1 (0 wins / 1 lose). About Chet, he started the season with 11 PTS, 2 3PM, 4 REB, 3 AST, 1 STL and 0 BLK. In his case he was publicly humiliated by the experience of the players of the Chicago Bulls, becoming a rough start for both of these new heads.
On the other hand, we have the previous players and the league in search of new trophies to add to their collection, mostly Most Valuable Player of the league (MVP) and Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY). The favorites of the fans to win the MVP are the previous MVP Joel Embiid, last season’s winner of the championship Nikola Jokić and the best Power Forward in the league Giannis Antetokounmpo. Every single one of these players showed to the world their gigantic ability and talent to win in this sport and why they deserve this trophy. Nevertheless, DPOY should not be devalued, the closest to winning it is Jaren Jackson Jr. (last season’s winner of this trophy, followed up by Brook Lopez and Evan Mobley.
Going into the regular season, new events are introduced such as the “In-season tournament”, taking competitiveness to a whole new level and motivating every team to achieve victory and claim to be the best then. With this a new dynamic has been developed dividing the clubs into 6 different groups in which every team will play against all the other ones (every group will have 5 teams per each), in simple words, every team would play a total of 4 games in their group. They later on will be classified to play and start off the elimination of those who lose.
In addition to this, people are starting to speculate which teams will claim the 1st seed and be in first place at the playoffs, winning most of the games contested in the regular season. Those who are most likely to achieve this are Boston Celtics, Milwaukee Bucks, Denver Nuggets and the Memphis Grizzlies. However, more than one surprise can come up in the journey.
